Smile Cookie sales raise over $30,000 for Youth For Christ Steinbach
Youth For Christ (YFC) Steinbach was presented a cheque today for $31,761 thanks to the Smile Cookie Campaign at the three Tim Hortons locations in Steinbach. Reuben Singh, Executive Director of YFC Steinbach, says it’s incredible to receive such a large amount of money from the community. “Our community has always been generous, and this continues to show us that our community is behind us, and not just us, but our youth, that's the most encouraging part to me. Thank you for being behind us and supportive of us and our youth.” He says a chunk of the money will go toward resurfacing the skate park, as it needs some upgrades. YFC Steinbach’s next big fundraiser is their golf tournament on August 1st. You can register for that on their website. “And that supports both Steinbach and Blumenort sites, so if you want to help out in either capacity, that's awesome.” Andrew Heidebrecht, Owner of Tim Hortons in Steinbach, says it’s exciting to see such tremendous support for YFC this year. “We exceeded previous year's sales both in cookies and dollar amounts, so it was a fantastic year.” Between the three Steinbach Tim Hortons locations, a lot of people put in a lot of work. He says the staff did an amazing job. “They always grab this event and run with it, and the volunteers from YFC did a great job too. It's a lot of work for our bakers and our team to create this many cookies, and they came out and helped.” Two of the employees who sold the most cookies were Angel Sarrasin who sold 786 cookies and Mariama Gross who sold 430 cookies. Heidebrecht says it’s great to be a part of giving back to the community. “YFC we've partnered with for a number of years now, and they do great work in our community, impact youth in a tremendous way, and we're very thankful that we get to help out in a small way.” The next fundraiser Tim Hortons will be focusing on is Camp Day in July. “Going on the same theme of impacting young people, our camps across the country and in the U.S. impact so many thousands of kids.” With files from Dave Anthony
